Welcome Message from Convener

Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the organizing committee it is my honor and privilege to invite you to the International Symposium on Spine and Paravertebral Sonography for Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine 2012 (issps2012), which will be held in Hong Kong from the 29th March – 1st April 2012. As you may be aware this is the fourth such event that we are organizing and it is my pleasure to inform you that all previous events have been hugely successful and well received by participants from around the world. For the issps2012 we have once again put together an interesting and thought provoking scientific program that will be covered by a group of experts and opinion leaders, from overseas and locally. We truly believe this one of a kind, very special symposium will be a great opportunity for everyone to network, exchange experience and scientific knowledge in this state of the art field of anaesthesia and pain medicine. The symposium will include lectures, expert scanning demonstration session, panel discussion, hands-on workshops, and exhibition of the latest equipment, drugs, and products. There will also be a live demonstration session during which ultrasound guided interventions relating to the spine and paravertebral region for anaesthesia and pain medicine will be relayed live to the symposium venue from the operating theatre. We are also for the first time introducing workshops on Doppler Sonography and 3D 4D Ultrasound Imaging for regional anaesthesia. We are confident that you will find the scientific program interesting.

We also welcome you to experience Hong Kong which is a city of diversity, a city of life, a sophisticated fusion of the east and the west and more importantly a city of culture and heritage where the old and the new live side by side in perfect harmony. Hong Kong is home to some of the best hotels and fine dining restaurants in the world while it still prides itself of preserving its traditional “dai pai dong”, the street side food stalls, and lively dim sum restaurants. Hong Kong also has some of the world’s largest shopping malls but you can also find the bustling street markets almost everywhere. Three-quarter of Hong Kong is countryside where one can get away from the hustle and bustle and experience the sandy beaches, woodlands, mountain ranges, grasslands and the famous wetlands around the Mai Po Marshes and Inner Deep Bay in the northwestern corner of Hong Kong which are a haven for migratory birds. To thrill the family and the young traveler there are the Hong Kong Disneyland and the Ocean Park. Hong Kong is also the prefect destination as a gateway to China with easy access to mainland cities, neighboring Macau and other South East Asian destinations. It is these contrasts that offer every visitor to Hong Kong a very unique experience. We welcome you to discover the diversity and experience what is Hong Kong.

We look forward to seeing you in Hong Kong.
